MALTA

Christian Kamaal drops a 17-minute visual album, a deep dive for anyone ready to get lost in a dark, twisted fantasy. He wrote it, directed it, produced it, and even starred in it.

In this horror/thriller spin on R&B, which snagged an official selection at the 2022 American Black Film Festival, a serial killer breaks out of an insane asylum and heads back to the abandoned apartment where he and his late lover used to wreak havoc, only to discover she never really left.

In this satire, a ‘Karen’ gets her hands on a magical spray called “Blackifier,” turning anyone into a black person in the eyes of everyone else. Christian dives deep into racial discrimination, police brutality, and the lost art of minding your own business.

In December 2022, Christian bagged the DGA Grand Prize Award for Best African American Student Film on the West Coast with his thesis film at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. This film is currently playing on American Airlines.

RESTLESS

In the first semester at USC, COVID-19 hit and shut everything down, sending Christian back to the one place he was running from—home. Even with the world on fire, his creative itch wouldn’t let him chill. Restless doesn’t even begin to cover it.

This film? It was a class project where he had to channel an emotion into a story. With no crew in sight, Christian went full solo, handling everything himself in one day while his mom was at work.

Sent from LA and back home to North Carolina, Christian’s class work never skipped a beat. In this film, made with no crew, in the height of the pandemic, Christian seeks to show off his visual storytelling abilities all while calming his own anxieties about the future of the world.
